Keystone Ski Resort

A few weeks ago, we loaded up the car super early & headed for our first ski outing since moving to Colorado.

Apparently bumpy roads + low light = blurry photos.

It was just slightly busy on the mountain.

The twins & I took lessons. My instructor was very good but my one complaint about Keystone is that the learning hill is smaller and less steep than the hills we sled on.

I met Ella & Nick for lunch. It was a gorgeous day!

After lunch we "graduated" to the intermediate learning hill. It was also very short. After a few runs, I was feeling great, looking great (according to the instructor) and feeling like if I could learn to enjoy skiing at my age ANYONE could.
In fact, I was feeling so elated I decided to try a run with Ella & Nick.
I am not exaggerating when I say I was worried whether I was going to make it down the mountain alive. I'm not sure I have ever been more scared. The run was over 3 miles long but I was taking so long that we had to stop before we got to the bottom.  I felt like I was speeding out of control (don't listen to Nick tell you that I wasn't). The gap between the measly learning hills & the real run was enormous.  I was so panicked all of my good form went out the window. It was discouraging to say the least.
We took the lift back up to retrieve the twins. Ella went to explore the ice castle. There is a slide & other cool stuff, but my legs were so tired that this is as close as I got.

We captured one family photo before heading down the mountain. Look at that blue sky!

Despite my brush with death, it was a good day. Everyone had fun & stayed warm.

In fact, it was so warm that I stuffed 6 huge down mittens under my coat because we were skiing with glove liners.

Nick took the twins back this weekend & found several runs that were better suited for beginners. Keystone is the closest resort on our ski pass so if we head back at least I know there is still hope for me.
Nick has been watching the Utah snow totals with tremendous envy this year. Colorado still doesn't have a lot of snow. On the way home, we drove over the Continental Divide and were above the tree line.
Someone was very happy to see us at the end of the day.
